Rick the Rock and the Eagles in the Community team made going back to school a lot easier for some lucky students last week, visiting nearly 30 schools around Perth to kick off term three.

West Coast Eagles 101, designed to give international university students their first taste of Australian Rules football, launched its second semester program through Edith Cowan University recently.

Twenty-seven students attended the Eagles' round 18 clash against Melbourne on Saturday, with prime seats allowing them to see first-hand what the nation’s favourite football code is all about.

This week the new international West Coast fans will be given a tour of the club's facilities and will take part in an interactive review of the game, including an explanation of the rules, positions, teams and game highlights.

West Coast’s Community Engagement Coordinator James Grabski said Eagles 101 was a fantastic initiative supported by the club’s dedicated parter, ECU.

“Last year we had participants from more than 10 different countries and hopefully this year will be no different,” Grabski said.

“It’s great to be able to introduce AFL to people who have never seen or heard of it before. Hopefully this is the start of a lifelong passion for the game, and of course, a passion for the club.”

The club’s High School Program also got off to a flying start as students from Kennedy Baptist College were treated to a look into the training requirements of an AFL player, nutritional information as well as injury management and prevention by the way of an Eagles Insight presentation.

The High School program, supported by the club’s Principal Community Partner BHP Billiton, allows schools to choose from a variety of topics including cyber bullying, leadership and goal setting and is provided free to interested schools.
