The West Coast Eagles have teamed up with the Seniors Recreation Council of WA (SRCWA) for a third year in a row to provide opportunities for the club’s senior members to stay healthy and active via the Eagles in their Prime program.

The club is currently hosting a Tech Savvy Seniors course, just one of several events it coordinates throughout the year for Eagles in their Prime members.

SRCWA project manager Martin Yates said the two organisations had formed a great reciprocal relationship which helped spread Council’s message of senior inclusivity and activity.

“The tech savvy course is designed to break down the barriers that seniors have with technology,” Yates said.

“It’s not technical training. It just helps them become familiar with technology. We cover things like how to spot scams and how to navigate websites. Eagles staff also show the group how to use the membership website.”

Ellaine Summers is enrolled in the Tech Savvy Senior course and has found it particularly helpful.

“I tackled the Census online and because of the course I was actually confident to try it,” Mrs Summers said.

“There used to be things that I would bypass because I didn’t know how and now I will give them a go. I would never have used the club membership page before; someone would do it for me. Now I can do it myself.”

Anne McKimmie has been attending the Eagles in their Prime events for the past two years and says the events give her an opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills.

‘‘I have been coming to Eagles games with my son since he was 10,” Mrs McKimmie said.

“He’s now 30 and it’s still something we do together. These events give me a chance to meet other members and also get the grandkids involved.”
